Do you know why this phrase coined ?

It was coined to emphasize the potential health risks of a sedentary lifestyle because research shows the adverse effects of sitting for long

It’s now obvious that our modern lifestyle has become very sedentary, with many people spending the majority of their day sitting at a desk or on the couch. While sitting may feel comfortable and relaxing in the moment, it can have negative effects on our health in the long run.

What are some of the risks of this lifestyle ?

When we sit for long periods of time, our calorie burn decreases significantly, yet there must be a significant balance in intake and balance of canaries to maintain a healthy weight . Do you know that research has shown that sitting for eight hours a day can lead to a 20-30% reduction in calorie burn. These calories are stored as fat in our body, leading to weight gain over time. Do we see what is happening ?

These are 2 deadly diseases !!!
Prolonged sitting has also been linked to an increased risk of heart disease and diabetes ( diabetes itself can trigger heart disease ) . When we sit for extended periods, our blood flow decreases ( can you imagine ) , making it harder for our bodies to regulate insulin( which is important for maintaining blood sugar levels ) and break down fat. This can lead to high blood sugar levels and an increased risk of developing diabetes. To make matters worse, sitting for long periods has been associated with higher levels of triglycerides, a type of fat found in the blood that can increase the risk of heart disease. So sitting down for long has an effect on cholesterol and blood sugar levels

How many of us have noticed that when we are feeling low and we go for a walk , we feel better ? That’s because sitting too much can also have a negative impact on our mental health. It’s scary to know that prolonged sitting is associated with an increased risk of depression, anxiety, and other mental health issues.

In my next post , I’ll be sharing more on this and what we can do to deal with the effects
However, reading this should get us thinking about our lifestyle so we can be gingered to prevent these effects
