Juicing and juice fasts have immense benefits . However , there are disadvantages or cons

- It might not be very good for people with KIDNEY DYSFUNCTIONS if we are juicing vegetables that are high in OXALATES. Oxalates are natural compounds in some vegetables ,fruits , nuts and grains . They are highest in green leafy vegetables. Oxalates can bind with the mineral Calcium in kidneys to form calcium oxalate KIDNEY STONES . So people who are prone to kidney stones should be moderate in juicing such vegetables etc rich in them .
- For people who juice fruits especially sweet ones like watermelon, pineapple there’s the tendency for sugar spikes which can lead to insulin resistance. It’s even more problematic for diabetics , people with pre-diabetes and even PCOS . Also this sugar in fruits is fructose and too much can tax the liver and also cause fatty liver disease . I prefer to juice more vegetables than fruits .
- Loss of insoluble fiber . There are 2 types of fiber : soluble and insoluble. We lose the insoluble fiber during juicing . The fiber can be added to smoothies or used to create vegetable snacks like crackers.
- In juicing is there is a need for very large quantity of material to get enough juice especially if juicing fruit and vegetables that are low in water content .
- Cleaning of juicing equipment sure takes a while when compared to smoothie makers . Juicers definitely don’t look forward to cleaning the juicer as it can be tedious but must be thoroughly done to get rid of germs
- Juicing sure takes longer than blending or smoothie making especially if it’s a slow juicer .Slow juicers sure takes longer when compared to other types .
- When juicing , especially during juice fasts ,some juicers may end up not consuming enough calories if not taking enough during juice fasts . This may lead to weakness , dizziness and fatigue . So drinking many cups are needed during juice cleansing or fasts
